Wedding Updo Hairstyles

Ahh…the wedding day! Many of us have waited for it all our lives. Now, that it’s finally here: panic! The hair question is absolutely stressing! What hairstyle to choose for this special day? Let’s face it. Weddings are going to be wonderfully…hectic for brides. Meeting people all day long; looking at the minute details of organization, getting prepared (which is nothing short of a feat in itself), and of course the long hours of dancing are all going to take a toll on you and your hair. The point is, you are never going to find time to look after your hair amidst all this BUT you still need to be the most gorgeous thing at the party. Updos to the rescue! Unlike other hairstyles, updos can last a long time. They keep your hair out of the way, so it is very practical. And they look absolutely extraordinarily beautiful on brides; the perfect hairdo for the wedding day.

Basic Principles of Wedding Updos

I know this sounds like some scientific protocol but here’s what you should do, if you want a good and lasting wedding updo:

  1. NEVER wash your hair on the wedding day ; for an updo leave a 24 hour period before you start doing your hair. Freshly washed hair does not stand being constrained in the manner of an updo. They are always looking for ways to escape. So, if you want them to behave, do not wash them. Alternatively, you may use an appropriate spray to give them texture.
  2. THOROUGH brushing is essential (take out all those knots and tangles). Ideally, a hair straightner would be most useful. Ask your friends to help you out with this step.
  3. Brush from the hairline to the back, producing a ponytail high at the middle of the crown. Tie it down with a band of the same color as your hair.
  4. Raise the ponytail vertically above your head, keeping it tight and the crown hair smooth. Twist it clockwise into a bun which you will secure with pins. Keep the pins out of sight.
  5. Pull strands from the hairline to create tendrils.
  6. Spray the bun to keep it in place.

Some Nice Wedding Updo Ideas

The Classic French Twist Updo is a favorite as it can be both casual and formal. It’s easy too! It can be worn by anyone with medium to long hair. The Twist can be worn high or flat, up or down. It can be decorated with a wide variety of accessories: pearls, curls, tiaras, and flowers. It can be modified to suit any face type.

A Curls Updo is when the hair end has been curled or waved. It looks best with a veil or adorned with flowers. It of course works better for naturally wavy or curly hair.

Hair Knot updos are also quite popular with brides. They require shoulder length hair or longer to be successful. It can also be adorned with flowers and other accessories to have the best effect.
